William Baird Mead

William Baird ?Bill? Mead, age 42 of Front Royal, VA, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007 at the Garrett Memorial Hospital in Oakland, MD. Born March 17, 1964 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of Robert C. & Amy Mead of Wheeling, WV. Surviving in addition to his parents is his wife, Julia (Bosley) Mead, a son, William Baird Mead, Jr. at home and an unborn son due in the spring. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert C. Mead, Jr. of Wheeling, WV & Charles P. Mead, III of Oakland, MD; his in-laws, Jim & Betty Bosley of Old Fields, WV; sisters-in-law, Jody Bosley Morgan of Denver, CO and, Karen Mead of Wheeling; a brother-in-law, Jeff Morgan of Denver; nephews, Westen Mead of Wheeling and Jack Morgan of Denver and a niece, Caitlin Mead also of Wheeling. Bill was a 1983 graduate of Canisius High School in Buffalo, NY and a 1987 graduate of Davis and Elkins College, in Elkins, WV. During his high school years he competed on the New York State ski team and played varsity soccer. He was fond of saying that he was the first Presbyterian to make ?All-Catholic?. While at college he was a member of the school?s nationally-ranked soccer team and later became a founding member of FOSS, Friends of Senator Soccer at D & E. He also served as a ski instructor at Timberline in Canaan Valley, WV. After graduation Bill began his business career as a realtor in McHenry, MD. He gravitated to mortgage banking as an originator at Buckeye Savings Bank in Bellaire, OH and remained in the mortgage industry throughout his career working in offices from Morgantown, WV, to northern Virginia, to Front Royal and Winchester, VA and most recently as branch manager for SunTrust Mortgage in Martinsburg, WV. In addition to being an avid skier, Bill loved golf, hunting, fishing and NASCAR. He was a fan of the ?20? car, among others, and in some respects resembled its driver. Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church with Katherine Jackson, C. Thomas Rhyne & Rachel W. Crumley officiating. Interment will follow at the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 ? 4 & 6 ? 8 PM Friday at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield.
