Evelyn Virginia Dodd Hitt, age 99 of Winchester Avenue, Moorefield, WV, passed away Friday evening, March 19, 2021, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. Born on July 19, 1921, in Berkeley County, WV, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Lowell Dodd and Alice Evelyn Jacques Dodd. Her husband of 60 years, H Ralph Hitt preceded her in death in April 2003. Brothers, Harold J. Dodd, Samuel “Buster” Dodd, and Lowell Dodd and sister Florence Krueger also preceded her in death. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Virginia graduated from Moorefield High School and the West Virginia College of Beauty Culture in Martinsburg, WV. After her graduation, she operated her own beauty salon, Virginia’s Beauty Bar in Moorefield. Virginia was a longtime faithful member of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of the Hardy County Extension Homemakers, currently the CEOS, and a 77-year member of the Moorefield Chapter #102, Order of the Eastern Star.
Virginia was an excellent homemaker whose homemade raised doughnuts were family favorites and her excellent seamstress skills allowed her to make everything from men’s suits to a ballet tutu. Her talents followed her outdoors where she loved flower gardening and her yard was selected as “Yard of the Month” in 2017
Surviving is a son, Lawrence R. Hitt (wife Jann) of Martinsburg, WV; a daughter, Lois E. Plaugher (husband Dick) of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Matt Plaugher (wife Betsy), Jeremy Plaugher (wife Danielle), Nathan Hitt (wife Daina) and Colin Hitt (wife Amy) and eight great-grandchildren.
Private family graveside services will be held in the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield with Pastor Jim Yao as officiant.
