Sylvanus "Bink" Carr, Jr., age 89 of Maple Ave., Moorefield, WV, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, WV. Born February 7, 1922 in Petersburg, WV, he was the son of the late Sylvanus Carr, Sr. and Catherine (Stover) Carr. Seven brothers and a sister preceded him in death. On August 13, 1949 he married his wife, the former Bernice Wright whom survives. In addition he is survived by a son, Mark Anthony Carr (wife Tammy) of Moorefield, WV; three daughters, Glenda Susan Carr Parsons (husband Carl) of Moorefield, WV, Shelia Robin Carr Dyche of Keyser, WV and Kristie Ellen Carr Stump of Moorefield, WV; a brother, Kenny Carr of Rig, WV; five sisters, Nina Carr Weatherholtz of Moorefield, WV, Mary Carr Thomas of Petersburg, WV, Edna Carr Swick of Ft. Ashby, WV, Mildred Carr Kessel of Moorefield, WV and Lona Carr Sherman of Moorefield, WV; five grandchildren, Kimberly Carr Michael, Tracy Stump Richmond, Anthony Carr, Jessica Dyche and Sara Dyche Michael and two great-grandsons, Nathan and Hunter. "Bink" was a US Navy veteran whom enlisted on September 29, 1942 and was discharged on January 4, 1946. He achieved the rank of Machinist Mate Second Class (T) (CB). He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. During his enlistment he was stationed at the USNTC Davisville, RI, the 57th US Navy Construction Battalion, the 35th US Navy Construction Battalion, the 44th US Navy Construction Battalion and served aboard the SS Del Brasil. He was a 1946 Graduate of Nashville Auto Disel College as an Auto-Diesel Technicain, was a member of the Denney-Moyers-Pratt Post #9606 V.F.W., a member of the John M. Golliday Post #64 American Legion. He was a member of the Valley View Golf Club as well as a member of the Wednesday morning Senior Men's Group. He was a member of the Potomac Highlands CB Club, a member of the Duplicate Bridge Club and attended the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren. Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00 PM Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St, with Pastor Don Knotts officiating. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the US Navy at Walnut Grove Gardens, SR 55, Moorefield, WV. The family will receive friends from 5 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
