Susan Welton Fisher

Susan ?Susie? Welton Fisher, age 84 of Sunrise Drive, Moorefield, WV, passed away Sunday morning, March 4, 2007 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born December 21, 1922 in Hardy Co., WV, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. & Alma J. (Pancake) Welton. Her husband, Dr. J.W. Fisher, Jr. preceded her in death in October 2004. Three sisters, Virginia Bowen, Ella ?Pud? Fraser & Elisabeth Brown and two brothers, Aleck Welton & Richard Welton also preceded her in death. She attended Madison College in Harrisonburg and graduated from WVU where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and the Dolphin Swim Club. Susie was an avid bridge player for the South Branch Duplicate Bridge Club and a game enthusiast. She was a member of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was the Financial Secretary for over 30 years. Susie was a member of the WAVES during WWII. The WAVES were a WWII era division of the U.S. Navy that consisted entirely of women. The name of this group is an acronym for "Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service". Surviving are two sons, Dr. William P. Fisher and wife Donna of Moorefield, WV & Dr. Joseph A. Fisher and wife Marcia of Moorefield, WV; a brother, Harry C. ?Bus? Welton, Jr. and wife Betty Lou of Moorefield, WV; a sister, Anne Jones and husband Allen of Key Largo, FL; sister-in-law, Helen Welton of Bethesda, MD and five grandchildren: Beth, Will, Jessie, Adam & Katie Fisher. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church with Pastor Katherine C. Jackson officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Olivet Cemetery where Susie and her husband, Dr. J.W. Fisher, will be interred together. The family will receive friends from 6 ? 8 PM Thursday at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel in Moorefield.
