Sabina Catherine Hoffman

Sabina Catherine Hoffman, age 84 of Romney, WV formerly of Moorefield, WV, passed away Sunday morning, May 5, 2019 at her residence with her family at her side. Born on September 24, 1934 in Swoope, VA, she was a daughter of the late Roy Varner, Sr. and Edith Blanche Eckard Varner. Her husband, Roy Virgil Simmons preceded her in death in November 1993. A son, Richard and three sisters also preceded her in death.

Considered by some as a “Checker Champ” she enjoyed activities. At church she loved singing. She enjoyed crafts, puzzles and reading, always challenging herself. By far her most important thing was to care for her cat “Blossom”.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Roy (wife Anna Belle) Varner of Moorefield, WV and David Junior Simmons of Harrisonburg, VA; four daughters, Doris (husband Brett) Stenberg of Romney, WV, Dianna (husband Joe) Alt of Petersburg, WV, Hilda Phillips of Harrisonburg, VA and Kitty Lou (husband L.J.) Purell of Dayton, VA; two brothers, Roy Varner, Jr of Fisherville, VA and George David Varner of Afton, VA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held beginning at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Dale Myers as officiant. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM.
