Ruth Penrose "Penny" Keating Hyde, age 91, formerly of Bethesda, MD passed away Friday, November 18th at The Village at Orchard Ridge in Winchester, VA. Born on August 2, 1925 in Berlin, NH, she was the daughter of the late Philip Keating and Ruth Knowles Keating. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Earl McSherry Hyde, Jr whom she married on October 17, 1953 in Frankfurt, Germany. She was also preceded in death by one brother. After graduating from Northfield School for Girls in Mount Hermon, MA, she attended Vassar College studying International Relations and Russian. Mrs. Hyde received a masters degree from John Hopkins School of Advanced International Relations. Professionally, Mrs. Hyde worked for the World Bank and U.S. Foreign Service (CIA). She accompanied her husband Earl, also a Foreign Service employee, as they served four years in Seoul, Korea. During retirement, Mrs. Hyde was deeply involved in the work of several think tanks, enjoyed international travel and took particular interest in personal investing. She also dedicated her time and talents to numerous organizations such as the Washington Club, the National Gallery of Art, the National Symphony and the Salvation Army Auxiliary. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 AM Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Fraley Funeral Home, 107 Washington Street, Moorefield, WV with Pastor Harold Tongen officiating. Interment will follow at Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
