Russell Dennis Newman

Russell Dennis Newman, 89, of Moorefield died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, WV. Born May 29, 1916, he was the son of the late Rev. B.F. Newman and Mae (Garrett) Newman. His wife of 54 years, Ruby (Murphy) Newman; two brothers, Buford and Burl; and three sisters, Clarice, Lucille, and Louise preceded him in death. He is survived by one sister, Helen Hendricks of Berea, Kentucky; two sons, N. Russell Newman of Moorefield and William C. Newman of Pocasset, MA; and two granddaughters, Sue Ellen Gossard of Winchester, VA, and Becky Yokum of Upper Tract, WV. Mr. Newman worked for Ashland Oil Refining Company for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1978. He was a veteran of World War II, serving on various ships in the U.S. Navy throughout the South Pacific. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Wayne, WV, Chapter 18, Royal Arch Masons. He was an avid golfer and sportsman in his retirement years and he and his wife shared their time between their residence in Moorefield and their winter home in Bradenton, FL. Friends will be received at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield from 7:00PM until 9:00PM Monday. Services will be conducted at the Fraley Funeral Home, 11:00AM Tuesday, January 31, 2006, with Pastor Ed Craft officiating. Interment will follow at the Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield.
