Ruby Joy Bailey

Ruby “Joy” Bailey, age 78 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Friday morning, May 27, 2022, at the Evergreen Health and Rehab Center in Winchester, VA.

Joy was born on December 26, 1943 in Kessel, WV to the late Lemuel Elwood Pratt and Ruby Autumn Simmons Pratt. She graduated high school from Moorfield High School in 1961 and worked as a bookkeeper for many years.  Joy married Albert Mikell (Mike) Bailey on August 16, 1969 in Moorefield, WV. 

In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her husband Mike, a sister, Betty J. Landis and brothers, Wade E. “Jack” Pratt and Edgar G. “Doc” Pratt.

Joy was a member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren under Pastors Russell and Lucy Webster.  She loved talking about her granddaughter, Rae and cooking for others.  She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, meeting her classmates for lunch, and of course, shopping.  While she spent several years on the West Coast, West Virginia was always her home. 

Surviving is a daughter, Kristie Bailey Ostrander and husband, Quintin of Winchester, VA; a granddaughter, Ruby RaeLynn Ostrander; a brother, Robert E. Pratt of Moorefield, WV and two sisters, Lois S. Hanlin of Hagerstown, MD and Gloria “Dawn” McCulley of Moorefield, WV.

Honoring her wishes, Joy was cremated, and A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00AM June 18, 2022 at Moorefield Church of the Brethren, Clay & Washington Streets.  Due to the current COVID-19 recommendations, wearing of masks and social distancing by individuals unvaccinated is recommended.
