Ronald Harman “Bud” Vance, age 86 of Old Mountain Road, Purgitsville, WV passed away Saturday evening, November 21, 2020 at his residence. Born on August 20, 1934 in Moorefield, WV, he was the son of the late Robert Arthur Vance and Erma Evelyn Kuykendall Vance Harper. His wife, Alice Virginia Haggerty Vance preceded him in death in December 2007. A son, Kenny Vance and two sisters, Eleanor Smith and Barbara Wilson also preceded him in death.
Bud was a member of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church, a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Moorefield High School Class of 1952. Bud, aka “necktie” was a member of the “Alley Cat Gang” who were infamous in Moorefield history. He worked for numerous employers over the years including Rockingham Poultry, Kelly Tire, as a janitor for Hampshire County Schools and eventually retiring while working for Allied-Egry in Petersburg, WV.
He gave back to his community by coaching Little League in Moorefield, was a member of the Mill Creek Ruritan club and participated with the entire family in “Adopt a Highway” program. Free time was spent hunting, fishing and camping with the family of which he would pick up early from school on occasion. When the love of his life passed away, he took college courses at Eastern Community College, so he could use a computer to pay the bills. He enjoyed it so much, he ended taking two semesters of English just to have something to do.
Surviving are two granddaughters, Holly (James) Simpson and Brandy (Robert) Santiago of Purgitsville, WV; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Saville, Colin Stewart, Alexander Stewart, Gabriel Santiago & Adon Simpson; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Vance of Purgitsville, WV and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held beginning at 11:00 AM Wednesday. November 25, 2020 at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church, South Main Street, Moorefield with Pastor Jim Yao officiant. A reception will follow the service at the Mill Creek Ruritan Club, 220 North, Purgitsville, WV.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, wearing of masks and social distancing will be encouraged at all times.
