Ronald Estepp, age 79 of Old Fields, WV, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 1, 2023, at his residence. Born on December 27, 1943, in North Matewan, WV, he was a son of the late Alfred Herman Estepp and Zola Cook Estepp. In addition to his parents, a sister, Zida "Bonnie" Armour preceded him in death. He was a member of the Moorefield Church of Christ for almost 53 years where he performed any task needed done from cleaning the baptistery to leading singing.
Ron was a 1967 graduate of Berea College before earning a master’s degree in Agronomy from West Virginia University in 1969. Ron worked as a soil scientist for the National Conservation Resource Service from 1969 until he retired in 2000. During his service as a soil scientist Ron mapped and investigated soils throughout the eight counties in the Eastern Panhandle. Ron loved living in Hardy County so much that he turned down opportunities for advancement several times because that would have required him to move away from the beauty of the South Branch Valley. As a man of many interests and talents, Ron made several muzzle loaders, fly fishing rods, bookcases, cabinets, desks, sewing desk and cutting table, a pool table, a chest of drawers, and a dining table. Though he spent much more time creating furniture for his home, Ron loved to fish, hunt, and just simply sit in the woods looking at the critters.
Surviving is his loving wife of 56 years, Majorie “Vivian” Russell Estepp; a son, Jody Bret Estepp of Melrose, FL; a daughter, Amanda Estepp of Little River, SC; three brothers, Rod (Darlene) Estepp of Grove City, OH, Al "Herkie" (Vickie) Estepp of Charleston, WV, and Mark (Trish) Estepp of Berea, KY, besides many nieces and nephews. Ron was loved and respected by his family, his in-laws, his friends, and his church family.
At Ron’s request there will be no viewing or services.
