Robert “Bob” Dale Hammons, age 78 of Snyderville Road, Fisher, WV, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021 at The John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD after a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Born on August 25, 1943, in Webster Springs, WV, he was a son of the late Glenville Brice Hammons and Hazel Williams Hammons. Two brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death.
Bob retired as a First Sergeant from the United States Army; retired as a manager from Chrysler in Newark, DE; worked at Potomac Lanes in many capacities since 2004 and was a past member of the Walnut Grove Brethren Church. Bob had the most caring personality for everyone he knew. His family was everything to him. He was a devoted, loving husband, loved his children and grandchildren dearly and would do anything for them at a moment’s notice.
He loved the sport of bowling and was the President of the WV Tri-county Bowling Association. He was a certified bowling instructor and loved coaching the youth every Saturday morning. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling the country seeing all of God’s wonders. He felt blessed to be alive, loved God and always a positive outlook and very forgiving. He was generous to anyone who needed it, putting other’s needs before his own.
South Branch Potomac Lanes is implementing the “Bob Hammons Memorial Youth Bowling Scholarship Fund” in his memory. A bowling tournament will be held in his honor every year with the proceeds going to the fund. Donations can be brought to the Potomac Lanes until the fund is set up at the bank.
Surviving is his wife, Cherry Lou Runion Hammons; his children, Troy and Patti Hammons, Kevin Hammons, Erline Philbrick, Aaron and Sarah Philbrick & Stacie Hunter; grandchildren, Victoria, Alex, Briana, Jordan, Ariel, Emily, Gemma; great-grandson, Liam; brothers, Linsey, Paul, Boyd, Dewain, Donald & Gerald; sisters, Mildred Ervin, Shirl Mick, Betty Green, Doris Stone & Connie Hammons; his in-laws and their children, George and Betty Runion (Parents), Brenda, Sterling, Betty, Penny, & William a special niece Faith, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held beginning at 5:00 PM Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Dan Howard officiant. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until time of service at 5:00 PM. Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army. Due to the current COVID-19 recommendations, wearing of masks and social distancing by individuals unvaccinated is recommended.
