Rev. Alton Lee

August 4, 1941 — February 22, 2025

Moorefield, WV

Rev. Alton Lane Lee, age 83, of Moorefield, WV, peacefully departed this life on Saturday morning, February 22, 2025, at his residence. Born on August 4, 1941, in St. George, WV, he was the beloved son of the late Ezra Ellis Lee and Nelle Victoria Hebb Lee. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Patricia Louise Smelser Lee, who had passed in May 1994. As the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Conley B. Lee, Don Lee, Kent Lee, and Vergie Edeburn. His dear companion, Linda Mae Sherman, also passed away in May 2021.

Rev. Lee was a distinguished graduate of Aurora High School in 1959 and furthered his education at Nashville Auto Diesel School in 1961. He obtained his teaching degree from WV Tech, where he applied his skills to teach auto mechanics. His passion for photography led him to earn a diploma from the School of Modern Photography in Little Falls, NJ, which opened the door for him to work as a professional photographer for Jan Studios in Kingwood, WV.

A devoted man of faith, Rev. Lee was ordained in the Assemblies of God. He and his wife, Patricia, previously pastored the Friendsville Assembly of God Church in Friendsville, MD, before he dedicated twenty-two years as the pastor of the Moorefield Assembly of God Church in Moorefield, WV. Even after retiring from full-time ministry, Pastor Lee continued his service in various roles at Rig Assembly of God Church in Rig, WV, for an additional seventeen years.

In addition to his spiritual leadership, Rev. Lee had a passion for hunting, fishing, and sharing stories that brought laughter and joy to those around him. He had a keen artistic eye for photography, painting, and drawing, and his love for history made him an avid reader.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Leora Lee, Phyllis Strawderman, and Darlene Jones; his namesake, Lane Wolfe; as well as his “young’uns,” Ben Wolfe, Lorena Snyder, and Robin Miller. Rev. Lee will be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who were touched by his spirit and kindness.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate the extraordinary life of Alton Lane Lee. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance, reflecting on the profound impact he made on all those fortunate enough to know him.
