Ray Harrison Baldwin, age 96 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Sunday night, April 16, 2017 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV, with his loving wife of 69 years, Virginia L. (Wratchford) Baldwin by his side. Born October 31, 1920 in Hardy County, WV, he was the son of the late William Harrison Baldwin and Rebecca Jane (Ratliff) Baldwin. One infant son, a granddaughter, seven brothers and one sister preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, having served his country he received the Bronze Star Medal; Combat Infantrymans Badge; Purple Heart; Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two (2) bronze stars; Combat Infantryman Badge; Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII; Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar. He was a Member of the John M. Golliday Post #64 American Legion and a Life-time member of the Denney-Moyers-Pratt Post#9606V.F.W. He and his wife operated Baldwins Grocery for 25 years, and he was a previous employee of Raygold. He was avid gardener, loving husband and father. Surviving are six children, Charlotte & Les Walker of Cape Charles, VA, Lyle & Kay Baldwin of Moorefield, WV, Esther & John Thomas of Petersburg, WV, Nancy Thorne of Moorefield, WV, Kevin & Barbara Baldwin of Broadway, VA, and William Baldwin of Moorefield, WV; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St., with the Rev. Harold Cullers officiating. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the U.S. Army & the American Legion Honor Guard at the Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield, WV. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
