Nellie Bernice (Cain) Thomas, age 87 of Moorefield, WV passed away Wednesday morning, September 1, 2004 at the E.A. Hawse Continuous Care Center in Baker, WV, where she had resided for several years. Born May 18, 1917 in Hardy Co., WV she was a daughter of the late Price J. & Bertie (Malcolm) Cain. Her husband, Sylvester Gainer Thomas, Jr., preceded her in death in May 1968. A son, Donald B. Thomas; a brother, Blair Cain; three sisters, Ruth Bean, Mabel Cain & Lola Connolly; and infant twins, Jack & Jill Cain, also preceded her in death. She was the last member of her immediate family. Surviving is a son, John L. Thomas of Petersburg, WV; two daughters, Eleanor Orndorff of Moorefield, WV and Janet Bean of Moorefield, WV; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 4, 2004 at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield with Pastor Harold Garber officiating. Interment will follow at the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 ? 9 PM Friday at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield. Nellie was a member of the Tannery Chapel, Moorefield Presbyterian Church, a past president and lifetime member of the American Legion Post #64 Auxiliary and one of the last two charter members of the Women of the MOOSE #1182. She was a granddaughter of the late Joshua Cain, who was a Confederate soldier and she was a loving, caring mother and friend.
