Mortimer W. Bunkie Gamble, IV, age 74 of S. Elm St., Moorefield, WV, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003, at his residence. Born March 16, 1929, in Morgantown, WV, he was a son of the late Mortimer W. Gamble, III & Virgie (Ireland) Gamble. He was a graduate of Moorefield High School and West Virginia University where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and a member of the WVU Alumni Association. He married his wife Elaine Cole of Cumberland, MD, on August 19, 1950, and she preceded him in death on March 9, 1997. He was a retired Senior Engineering Technician for the WV Department of Highways and served as a member of the Moorefield City Council. He was a member of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, a member of the senior choir and a teacher in the Mens Bible class. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Korean conflict where he served as a platoon leader and company commander. He was a life member of the John M. Golliday Post #64 American Legion, a life member of the Denney-Moyers-Pratt Post #9606 V.F.W., a member of the 40 & 8 Voiture #1535 and a member of Company #582 Sons of Confederate Veterans. He also was a member of the Olivet Cemetery Board, Hardy County Health Department, Moorefield Sanitary Board, Love Memorial Clinic and Region VIII Health Advisory Committee. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Mortimer W. Gamble, V, of Fairmont, WV, and David Cole Gamble of Owings Mills, MD, and a sister Carmen and husband Charles L. Silliman of Moorefield. Funeral Services were conducted Thursday, October 9, 2003, at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church with Pastor Braxton Garriss and Rev. Randy Ours officiating. Interment followed with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the US Army and the Moorefield Veterans Honor Guard at the Olivet Cemetery. Memorials in his memory may be directed to a charity of choice.
