Merle Price Barr

Merle Price Barr, age 70 of Brentwood Drive, Covington, VA passed away Saturday evening, July 5, 2003 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born January 14, 1933 in Hardy Co., WV he was a son of the late Clifton & Nina (Riggleman) Barr. Merle was the retired Recreation Director for the City of Covington, a member of the Covington Temple Baptist Church, a member of the BPO Elks, a member of the L.O.O.M., a member of the Cat Alley Gang, and a veteran of the US Army. Surviving is his wife, Noreen (Alexander) Barr; two sons, Steven M. Barr of Eagle Rock, VA and Robert C. Barr of Gulfport, MS currently stationed in Ad Hillah, Iraq with the US Navy; two daughters, Jan Hobbs of Covington, VA and Rebecca Anuszkiewicz of Paintsville, KY; two brothers, Harlan ?Casey? Barr of Lynchburg, VA and Herman ?Jim? Barr of Moorefield, WV; a sister, Bonnie Greene of Moorefield, WV and eleven grandchildren. Funeral Services were conducted Friday, July 11, 2003 at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield with Rev. William Hartsfield officiating. Interment followed at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, WV where military graveside rites were accorded by the combined veteran's orginizations of Grant County along with the JROTC. A Memorial Service was held Thursday July 10, 2003 at the Temple Baptist Church of Covington with Rev.
