Lester Ray Smith

Lester Ray ?Jack? Smith, age 76 of Eisenhower Drive, Moorefield, WV, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 24, 2010 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born February 16, 1934 in Moorefield, WV, he was the son of the late Julian A. & Elizabeth (Southerly) Smith. A sister, Marjorie Zirk preceded him in death. He was a US Army veteran, a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church where he participated in the Men?s Bible Class and the church choir. He was a past member of the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company-46, a past member of the Potomac Valley Men?s Choir, was a council member and mayor of the Town of Moorefield, and a past member of the Moorefield JAYCEES. He was an active bowler, a sports enthusiast, was involved in the various youth sports leagues in the area and was a passionate, loving grandfather and great-grandfather. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Elda M. (Wilkins) Smith; three daughters, Pam Fitzwater (Bob) and Connie D. Price of Moorefield, WV & Alicia Conners (Jared) of Chapin, SC; his twin sister, Esther Greenwalt of Moorefield, WV; eight grandchildren, Chad Fitzwater (Sarah), David Fitzwater (Pam) & Heath Hines of Moorefield, WV, Benjamin Hines of Morgantown, WV, Alexa Conners, Nicholas Conners, Erica Conners & Jenna Conners of Chapin, SC; three great-grandchildren, Calli Devere Fitzwater & twins, Cohen Jackson Fitzwater and Bransen Duke Fitzwater; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jay D. Parkins officiating. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rites Accorded by the US Army & the Moorefield Veteran?s Honor Guard at the Olivet Cemetery.
