Leona George

Leona Mae George, age 83 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Monday evening, February 26, 2024 at the Grant Rehabilitation & Care Center in Petersburg, WV. Born on December 30, 1940, near Moorefield, WV, she was a daughter of the late Grover James Hose and Myrtle Mary Wilson Hose. Her husband, Homer L. George, Sr. preceded her in death in July 2009. Brothers, Marshall, Johnny & John and sisters, Barbara, Karen and infant sisters, Betty Lou & Myrtle also preceded her in death.

With a heart devoted to her family, Leona found joy in simple pleasures like family dinners and the precious moments shared with her grandchildren. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, particularly her love for nurturing vibrant flowers. She took great pride in her appearance, always ensuring her nails and hair were immaculate.

A dedicated member of the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, Leona found solace in her faith and cherished her time spent attending services. She embraced life's celebrations with enthusiasm, whether it was riding in parades or walking proudly into Ethan's wedding.

Surviving are a son, Homer L. George, Jr. (Gloria) of Moorefield and their children, Kyle, Eathan (Brittany) Nick (Kyra), Sabrina (Jason) and four great-grandchildren; son, Bruce George (Denise) of Petersburg and their children, Curtis (Chasity), Coty (Caysie), Erica, Ethan and two great-grandchildren; a daughter, Rebecca See (Gary) of Old Fields; brothers, Harlan “Gene”, Jake “Bobby” (Kitty), Grover “Andy” (Debbie);  sisters, Penny Moton (Joseph “Jake”) and JoAnn Dove (Dale), numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend and roommate, Ruth Wilkins.

Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor D. J. Taylor officiant. Interment will follow in the Newhouse Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
