John Charles Hott, age 71 of Ft. Myers, FL passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born November 10, 1934 in Fabius, WV he was the son of the late Theodore Hammond Hott and the late Alice Susan Madora (Burch) Hott. John is survived by three sons: Ronald Lee Hott and his wife Tina, of Colonial Beach, VA; Donald Joseph Hott and his wife Mary, and Gerald Allen Hott and his wife Lisa, all of Severn, MD. He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Lori June Dombrosky and her husband Mark, of Indianapolis, IN and two step-sons, Scott Michael Baker and his wife Tricia, and David Russell Baker and his wife Rachel, all of Baltimore, MD. John also has eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild and eight nephews. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, William A. Kuykendall, of Moorefield, WV. John was a self-made man who left home at the age of 14, with only eight years of formal education, he moved to Alexandria, VA, where his first job was as a tire changer for Smith?s Moving and Storage Company, in Alexandria, VA. Colonel Smith, John?s mentor and the owner of Smith?s Moving, saw potential in John and encouraged him to go to business school. With hard work and determination John finished business school and rose through the ranks to become a branch manager for Smith?s, for whom he opened and ran several other branch offices. In 1971 John purchased The Baltimore Storage Company in Baltimore, MD, Mayflower Transit?s First Exclusive Agent. He devoted over 30 years to the company; its employees, and customers. His son?s Donald and Gerald (Jay) now run the company, proudly following in their father?s footsteps. In 1982, John met Mary Baker of Indianapolis, IN. A loving and caring wife, she has remained by his side ever since. The couple resided in Baltimore for over twenty years and for the past three years they have made Ft. Myers their home. He was a member of the West Lanham (MD) Volunteer Fire Department, the Movers and Warehousemen?s Association of Maryland, the Mount Washington Club and the Charles Village Community Association. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Victoria Prock; two brothers and a sister. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM and a farewell service will be held at 8:00 PM at the Ruck Funeral Home in Towson, MD. The family will receive friends from 1 - 2 PM Monday at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Bean Settlement, WV. Services will be held at 2:00 PM with Pastor Mary Radford officiating. Interment will follow in the Asbury Church Cemetery.
