Hazel Pauline Hose, age 86 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Sunday evening, April 23, 2023, at the Grant Memorial hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born on March 20, 1937, in Baker, WV, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson Funkhouser, Sr. and Rosa Elizabeth Combs Funkhouser. Her husband of 51 years, Calvin Eugene “Jack” Hose preceded her in death in October 2004. Three brothers and a sister, Gene L. Funkhouser (1968), Woodrow W. Funkhouser, Jr. (2015), Harold C. Funkhouser (2016), and Karen Sue Findley (2013) also preceded her in death.
Hazel was predominantly a homemaker; however, she previously was employed at Raygold, Inc., Hester Industries and West-Whitehill Winery for a brief period. Hazel enjoyed being outdoors and spending time doing yardwork and planting flowers. First and foremost, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandson Cory.
She was a 60-year member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren and in recent years attended the Moorefield Assembly of God Church. She had a great faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was always willing to speak to friends and strangers about the blessings and miracles she received in her lifetime. She was always waiting for the day that God would call her home to reunite with her loved ones who had previously passed. Frequently she visited the local nursing homes to spend time with those who were lonely and to bring the Lord’s message to those who had not accepted his grace and mercy.
Surviving is a daughter, Dr. Cindy Vance, CPA of Martinsburg, WV; a son, Magistrate Craig A. Hose of Moorefield, WV; a grandson, Cory Vance of Martinsburg, WV; a sister, Violet Kitzmiller of Mt. Storm, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the Moorefield Church of the Brethren with Pastors Russel & Lucy Webster, Pastor Wade Armentrout and her son, Craig A. Hose as officiants. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery in Old Fields, WV. The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 PM Monday, May 1, 2023, and 4 – 7 PM Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street.
Memorials may be directed to the Potomac Highlands Animal Rescue, 940 Corners Road, Cabins, WV26855 or a Charity/Church of Donor’s Choice.
