Hazel Irene Crane

Hazel Irene Crane, age 73 of John C. Crider Road, Purgitsville, WV, passed away Sunday evening, March 31, 2019 at her residence. Born on April 1, 1945 in the Flats area of Hardy County, WV, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Leander Srout and Una Pauline Pratt James.

Hazel was born and raised a country girl with thirteen brothers and sisters and she embraced every bit of it. She not only loved her family but she loved her country. She was very patriotic and proud. Her last job was at the VFW 9606 where she made many friends. Once you met her she had a way of making you feel like she had known you forever. Spring was her favorite time of year. She enjoyed watching and feeding the hummingbirds and watching new life emerge each year. She also enjoyed gardening and canning. But most of all, she loved her three girls. Her dedication as a mother was her drive in life. She was an amazingly strong willed woman who will be eternally missed by many.

Surviving are three daughters, Brenda Jantz of Purgitsville, WV, Kathy Rutan & Karen Conklin of Pensacola, FL; four sisters, Jean Evans of Arlington, VA, Mona Miller of Moorefield, WV, Janet Brooks of Westminster, MD and Linda Lough of Old Fields, WV; two brothers, Howard Srout and Doyle Srout of Old Fields, WV; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted 6:00 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Dan Howard officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 PM Wednesday prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation will follow services.
