Harold Robert Smith, age 83 of N. Main St., Moorefield, WV, passed away Friday morning, August 26, 2005 at his residence. Born December 9, 1921 in Hardy Co., WV he was the son of the late Aaron B. & Bessie (Kessel) Smith. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and participated in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He earned 5 Battle Stars, was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the European Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the European-African Middle Eastern Ribbon. He was a Life member of the John M. Golliday Post #64 American Legion having served as a past Commander. He was a member of the Hardy Co. Voiture 40 & 8, a former member and past Chief of the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company and a former board member and past President of the Moorefield Little League. He was a member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren. Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Polly (Wratchford) Smith; a son, Jay Smith of Old Fields, WV; two brothers; a sister and two grandchildren Josh & Jessie. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, August 29, 2005 at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield with Pastor Harold Garber officiating. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the US Army and the Moorefield Veterans Honor Guard at the Bethel Cemetery, Old Fields, WV. The family will receive friends from 6 ? 8 PM Sunday at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield.
