Harlin Ward Funkhouser, age 70 of Willow Tree Drive, Moorefield, WV, passed away Friday evening, January 22, 2010 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born February 16, 1939 in Moorefield, WV he was the son of the late Guy L. & Elizabeth (Gochenour) Funkhouser. A brother Leonard preceded him in death. Harlin was retired from the U.S. Navy as a S.E.A.L. and had served over 5 years in Vietnam during the war. He was a life member of the Denney-Moyers-Pratt Post #9606 V.F.W.; a life member of the John M. Golliday Post #64 American Legion, a life member of Hardy County Voiture #1623 40 & 8, a life member of the UDT/SEAL Association and a life member of the M.O.O.S.E. Surviving is his companion of 22 years, Lynne E. Simmons, three sisters, Lois Liller & Fern Ludwick of Moorefield, WV and Alverta See of Baker, WV; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A Memorial Service will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St. The U.S. Navy and the Moorefield Veteran Honor Guard will accord appropriate Military Honors. After services, his cremains will be transported to the Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, CA to be scattered at sea by the U.S. Navy S.E.A.L.s.
