H Ralph Hitt, age of 82 of Winchester Avenue, Moorefield, WV; passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 23, 2003 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born May 1, 1920 in Harrison County, WV he was a son of the late Homer & Orpha (Simons) Hitt. Mr. Hitt was retired from the WV Department of Agriculture after 47 years of service; he was a past Master and a member of the Moorefield Lodge #29 A.F. & A.M. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of WW II, a member and a past Deacon & Elder of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church; past President of the National Market News Association, past Treasurer of the McCoy-McMechen Museum Board, a member of the WV Poultry Association, a member of the John M. Golliday Post #64 American Legion and a former member of the Hardy County Library Association. Surviving is his wife, Virginia (Dodd) Hitt; a son, Lawrence Hitt of Martinsburg, WV; a daughter, Lois Plaugher of Winchester, VA and four grandsons, Matthew Plaugher, Jeremy Plaugher, Nathan Hitt and Colin Hitt. A Memorial Service was held at Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church with Pastor Braxton Garriss officiating. Private Interment was at Olivet Cemetery.
