Gilbert Franklin ?Rocky? Raines, age 87 of Rohrbaugh Lane, Moorefield, WV, passed away Tuesday morning, March 9, 2010 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born July 9, 1922 in Old Fields, WV, he was the son of the late Homer L. & Thelma V. (Liller) Raines. His wife, Betty Lee (Brill) Raines preceded him in death in February 2006. A brother, Charles and two sisters, Betty & Laura Belle also preceded him in death. He was a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Moorefield Lodge #29 A.F. & A.M; and a past member of the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company-46. He was a US Marine Corps combat veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific theater at the battle of Iwo Jima in the Volcano Islands. He was also a US Army combat veteran of the Korean War. He has been awarded the Combat Infantry Badge with 4 battle stars. He was employed by the M.A. Bean Motor Company from 1946 ? 1970 where he then went to work for Hawse Ford that later became Barlo Ford until 1978. In 1978 he started his career with the WV Department of Highways and retired in 2006 after 27 years of service. Surviving is his daughter, Rhonda Dodd (husband Roger) of Moorefield, WV; a brother, Gordon Raines (wife Eva) of Moorefield, WV; two sisters, Juanita See of Moorefield, WV & Virginia Flinn of Franklin, WV and three grandsons; Ryan Lewis of Morgantown, WV, William Dodd & Ryan Dodd of Moorefield, WV; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St., with Pastors Dan Stearns & Dan Howard officiating. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the US Marine Corps and the Moorefield Veteran?s Honor Guard at the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 -4 & 6 ? 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
