Georgia Marie Smith

Georgia Marie Smith, age 83 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Tuesday morning, April 14, 2020, at the Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV. Born on August 27, 1936, in Hardy County, WV, she was a daughter of the late George Abel High, Sr and Beulah Catherine Miller High. Her husband, David Edward Smith, Jr., preceded her in death in November 2000. A daughter, Pamela B. Smith and a sister, Clara Isabelle Wratchford also preceded her in death.

Georgia retired after 35 years at Grant Memorial Hospital in the billing department and worked at the Lowerngart & Co. Tannery in Moorefield for 20 years prior. She enjoyed reading, cooking for the family and watching game shows in her spare time. Good with numbers, her family was amazed by the math she could do in her head. Describing her days, she kept a journal and her family said she was the most forgiving person, who was wise for her age and had a huge heart.

Surviving is a son, David L. (Nancy) Smith of Martinsburg, WV; a brother, George A. (Vickie) High, Jr. of Purgitsville, WV; a sister, Peggy Jo High of Purgitsville, WV; three grandchildren, Sara L. Smith, Christina M. Smith & David M. Smith and a great-grandson, Carson E. Whetzel.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private graveside services will be held at the Green Hill Cemetery, Purgitsville, WV
