Garten Ruffis Adkins

Garten Ruffis Adkins, age 59 of Shockey Road, Old Fields, WV, passed away Sunday morning, January 10, 2010, at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born February 15, 1950 in Beckley, WV, he was the son of the late Ruffis & Denia (Terry) Adkins. He attended the Landmark Holiness Tabernacle church and was proud that he became a Christian. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, was a two time recipient of a Purple Heart, was a member of the Denney-Moyers-Pratt, Post #9606 V.F.W., a member of the John M. Golliday, Post #64 American Legion and a member of the Order of Purple Heart. Surviving is his wife, Violet Cook Adkins; a son, Roy G. Adkins of Clarion, PA; a daughter, Denia Adkins of Roanoke, VA; three brothers, Fred Terry of Germantown, MD, Lewis Adkins of New Carrolton, MD & Julius Adkins of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Wanda Murphy of Phoenix, AZ and four grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Landmark Holiness Tabernacle church, Patterson Creek Road, Arthur, WV, with Pastor Wendell Everett officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at the WV National Cemetery, Grafton, WV where military graveside rites will be accorded by the US Army and the Taylor County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 ? 8 PM Tuesday at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St., Moorefield. Mr. Adkins will be taken to the church 1 hour prior to services.
