Frederick A. Oyhus, age 91 of Evening Sun Drive, Moorefield, WV, died peacefully at the Grant County Nursing Home January 19, 2008. Born December 15, 1916 in Lamoure, ND he was the son of Albert & Sybil (Croswell) Oyhus. His first wife, Marjorie (Welch) Oyhus preceded him in death in June, 1983; a brother, Floyd C. Oyhus also preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife of 24 years, Lola (Riggleman) Barr Kimble Oyhus; four children and three step-children, Judith Oyhus Amos and her husband John of Goochland, VA, Marci Oyhus Hayes of Knoxville, TN, Jon Frederick Oyhus and his wife Rebecca of Frederick, MD, Gary Albert Oyhus of Rig, WV, Shelvy Barr Hartman and her husband Richard of Moorefield, WV, Gail Barr Sherman and her husband Robert of Charlestown, WV & Harold Dwane Barr and his wife Annabelle of Moorefield, WV; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Fred served as an officer of the US Navy?s Submarine Corps during WWII in the Pacific theatre. He worked as an electrical engineer on guided missiles for the US Navy and NASA through John?s Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratories for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He actively participated in both the Petersburg and Moorefield Presbyterian Churches, contributing to the choirs with his great bass voice and provided leadership as a deacon and elder. He was an active member of the local Gideons International, Rotary Club, Lions Club and served on the Board of Directors of Grant Memorial Hospital. For 15 years he enjoyed singing in the Potomac Valley Men?s Choir. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church with Pastor Katherine Jackson officiating. His remains have been donated to the Human Gift Registry of West Virginia University.
