Frances Joyce Hardy, 83, of Moorefield, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Joyce was born in Moorefield, West Virginia on January 10, 1935, and was the daughter of Ulysses Alfred Hedrick and Myrtle Grace Vance Hedrick. She had three sisters and two brothers. Joyce attended Toll Gate School and then Moorefield High School. She married James Hardy, her high school sweetheart, on December 20, 1951. Joyce became the mother of four children, Sharon, Marcia, Suzanne, and Joshua. She attended Potomac State College, Keyser, WV, and then attended Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, WV, where she earned her B.A. in Elementary Education. Joyce went on to earn her M.A. degree in Education through West Virginia University Extension classes. Joyce taught as a primary teacher for twenty-six years at Moorefield Elementary School. After retiring from teaching, Joyce taught piano for four to five years. She was an active member of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school classes, and helped with Vacation Bible School. Joyce also was a member of the Valley View Golf Course. Joyces interests included playing the piano, playing golf, reading, and watching competitive sports. She was especially proud of all of her children and grandchildren. Surviving family members include her husband of 66 years, James W. Hardy, daughter, Sharon Custer, daughter, Marcia Fisher, daughter, Suzanne Goodall, and son, Joshua Hardy, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Graveside Services will be held Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at the Olivet Cemetery at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Jim Yao officiating, followed by a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church.
