Evelyn Virginia Shirk

Evelyn Virginia Shirk, age 86 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Friday morning, January 15, 2016 at the Grant Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit in Petersburg, WV. Born October 8, 1929 in Scherr, WV, she was as daughter of the late Vause Frederick Crawford & Edna Estella (Roderick) Crawford. She was preceded in death by her husband Denver J. Shirk in September 2000. A son, Denny Shirk and two brothers also preceded her in death. Evelyn retired from the American Woodmark Corporation after 23 years of service. After retiring, she delivered the Cumberland Times newspaper, daily. The ability to socialize and chat with her customers was the highlight of her day. After many years on her paper route she finally retired and when she became a resident of the extended care unit at Grant Memorial of which she became the President of the Resident Council. Later, she again began a paper business and would look forward to selling the Grant County Press at the main entrance weekly as she once again would chat with visitors. For this, she was awarded the WV Volunteer resident of the year award from the state in 2014. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and socializing. Having never met a stranger, she always had a smile on her face, enjoyed working with her flowers, and enjoyed being outdoors, especially cracking walnuts in the fall. She was full of life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Surviving are a daughter, Linda K. Wratchford (Allen) of Moorefield, WV; three sons, Randy Crawford of Kessel, WV, Ronald W. Sperling & Carl Delmas Shirk of Moorefield, WV; a brother, William M. Crawford of Moorefield, WV; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St., with Pastor Brad Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at the South Branch Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV The family will receive friends from 6 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
