Eugene Franklin Whetzel

Eugene Franklin Whetzel, age 78 of Lost River State Park Road, Moorefield, WV, passed away Monday morning, October 27, 2008 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born April 24, 1930 in Hardy Co., WV, he was the son of the late Benjamin R. & Mary Ellen (Helmick) Whetzel. He was a member of the Harpers Chapel Church of the Brethren and he had retired as a service technician for Southern States Cooperative after 22 years service. A son, a sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Betty L. (Jenkins) Whetzel; two sons, Thomas E. Whetzel & Rodney F. Whetzel of Petersburg, WV; a daughter, Tammy Sites of Baker, WV; a brother, Lyle Whetzel of Broadway, WV; a sister, Nellie Compton of Woodstock, VA and four grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, October 30, 2008 with Pastor Dan Howard officiating at the Fraley Funeral Chapel, 107 Washington St. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of services. At his request, Gene was cremated and his cremains will be interred at Olivet Cemetery at a later date.
