Esther Jean Hefner

Esther Jean Hefner, age 92 of Railroad Street, Moorefield, WV, passed away Saturday morning, January 2, 2021 at her residence with family at her side. Born on June 25, 1928 in Old Fields, WV she was a daughter of the late Charles Howard Pratt and Floda Riggleman Pratt. Her husband Johnnie David Hefner preceded her in death in March 2014. Five brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren.

Esther enjoyed gardening especially her flowers as well as birdwatching as she fed the birds. She enjoyed cleaning, something most folks dread, but she found comfort while as she worked. Cooking and baking, especially cakes, of which she would always have one in the freezer, were other tasks she enjoyed. Shopping and retail therapy were stress relievers but the time she spent with the great-grandchildren was special and she cherished every moment.

Surviving is a daughter, Nancy Hefner Evans of Moorefield, WV; a sister, Nellie Sirbaugh of Stephens City, VA; a sister-in-law, Mary Alice (Landon) Shobe of Moorefield, WV; four grandchildren, Kim (Troy) Snyder, Jodi Evans, Rachel Evans & Jennifer See; eight great-grandchildren, Haley (Anthony) Shoemaker, Jacob Myers, Luke Myers, Macie Zirk, Malachi Zirk, Sicily Dunn, Marlee Richards & Myles Richards; six step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Olivet Cemetery with Pastors Russell & Lucy Webster officiants. Interment will follow. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing will be required at all times.
