Esther Mae Greenwalt

Esther Mae Greenwalt, age 86 of Branson Lane, Moorefield, WV, passed away Thursday evening, November 12, 2020 at her residence with her family at her side. Born on February 16, 1934 in Hardy County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Julian Arch Smith and Elizabeth Catherine Southerly Smith. Her husband, Jack Hoxie Greenwalt preceded her in death in October 1977. A son, “Butch” Greenwalt, a sister Margie Zirk, her twin brother, Lester Jack Smith, and a grandson, Edward Riggleman, Jr. also preceded her in death. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Esther was a devoted Christian who played the piano and organ and read her Bible daily and was a member of the Old Fields Baptist Church. She cherished the precious time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she helped raise numerous other children. A hard-worker, not only was she a homemaker for her large family, she worked at Rockingham’s Hatchery and worked for many years for Fraley Funeral Home and the Fraley family.

Surviving is five sons, Julian “Frog” (Youra) Greenwalt and Timmy (Karen) Greenwalt of Moorefield, Gary “Bink” (Mary) Greenwalt of Petersburg, Rusty Greenwalt and Scott Greenwalt of Moorefield; four daughters, Sandy Devault and Gail “Susie” (Jerry) Thompkins of Moorefield, Elsie (Tom) Haggerty of Purgitsville and Debbie Riggleman of Moorefield; twenty-three grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Rick Bergdoll officiating. Interment will follow at the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 on Tuesday.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, wearing of masks and social distancing will be required at the funeral home at all times.
