Harold Dwane Barr, age 78 of Evening Sun Drive, Moorefield, WV passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 23, 2020 at his residence with family at his side. Born on February 16, 1942 in Hardy County, WV, he was a son of the late Harold Godolphin Barr and Lola Kathryn Riggleman Barr Oyhus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother. Dwane was a graduate of Moorefield High School Class of 1960 and a member and officer of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church.
Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Annabelle Webster Barr; a daughter, Stacey (Miguel) Ferguson of Georgetown, TX; a son, Derek (Kirsten) Barr of Moorefield, WV; three grandchildren, Hayley Anderson, Allison Barr and Elliott Barr; two step-grandchildren, Matthew Ferguson and Grace Ferguson; two sisters, Shelvy (Richard) Hartman of Moorefield, WV and Gail (Robert) Sherman of Charles Town, WV; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Dwane was a barber in Moorefield for 35 years, giving generations of Hardy County residents their first haircut. Many fondly remember spending time in his shop as he vividly told stories and recalled exploits of his youth growing up in Rig. He was well known for his ability to spin a tale and his sense of humor. Teens and adults would grab a soda from his old-fashioned Coke machine, while children always enjoyed a lollipop when their haircut was finished. He was a frequent figure and voice at area events, serving as announcer at Moorefield high school football games and master of ceremonies of several beauty pageants. After his retirement, he loved golfing at Valley View, usually with the same group of close friends, and singing in the Moorefield Presbyterian Church choir. He was a devoted fan of Moorefield High and West Virginia University sports. Most of all, he loved his family and was intensely proud of his children and grandchildren.
