Dorothy Susan (Smith) Veach, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in San Bernardino, California, on August 2, 2019, surrounded by friends, family, and the pets she dearly loved.
Born April 21, 1928 in Kessel, WV, she was the daughter of late David Edward Smith and Dorothy Woerner Smith of Kessel, WV. She graduated from Moorefield High School in 1946 and shortly thereafter went to work for Bell Telephone, a career that lasted 36 years. After marrying Farland Alfred Veach in 1960, she moved to San Bernardino.
A talented singer and pianist, her family fondly remembers the many sing-alongs she led in the family home at Kessel. She was also devoted to her cats and dogs, many of whom were strays that found a loving secure home with her.
Her husband, Farland, predeceased in October 2007, as did her siblings Audrey Fittipaldi Curry, Mildred Matzen, Reuben Smith, and David Smith. Survivors include her dear friend Terry Mulligan of San Bernardino, CA, a sister Trixie Howdershell of Berryville, VA, a stepson Lloyd Wayne Veach and several nieces and nephews for whom she was a second mother.
A celebration of her life will be held in the fall in Moorefield, WV.
