Dorothy Lee Sherman, a member of the Moorefield community, peacefully passed away at the age of 91 on November 25, 2023. She was born on March 26, 1932, near Moorefield, WV, to Harry Holt Vetter and Una Claire Bowman Vetter. Sons Mark and Doug and four sisters and five brothers also preceded her in death. Dorothy's vibrant spirit and warm personality touched the lives of all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Dorothy was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She found joy in spending time with her family, including her loving husband Eugene "Tude" Sherman, whom she married on May 16, 1986. Dorothy was a devoted mother to her daughters, Debra Wilson (husband Gale) and Pamela Schell (husband Dane), and her son, Brodell Wilson. Her love and care extended to her eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, brother "Dick" Vetter and numerous nieces and nephews. Her extended stepfamily included stepchildren, Lloyd Sherman, Margaret Murrell, Joann See, Tim Sherman; seven step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy's zest for life was evident in her hobbies. She had a passion for bowling and was known for her competitive spirit on the lanes. A card enthusiast, she particularly enjoyed playing setback with friends and family. Additionally, Dorothy had a green thumb and spent many hours tending to her garden, cultivating beautiful flowers that brought joy to her surroundings.
After a long and fruitful career, Dorothy retired from the American Woodmark Corporation. Her strong work ethic, dedication, and positive attitude set an example for her colleagues and had a lasting impact on those she worked with.
Dorothy's faith played a central role in her life, and she was a member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren and attended the Rig Assembly of God Church. Her spiritual beliefs provided her with comfort and strength.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community. She leaves behind cherished memories that will be forever treasured. Funeral services to celebrate her remarkable journey and the profound impact she made in the lives of others will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the Rig Assembly of God Church. Pastor Elizabeth Martin will officiate the service. Following the ceremony, Dorothy will be laid to rest in the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.
