Christine Strawder Harvey

Christine Strawder Harvey, 85 of Moorefield, WV passed away early Friday morning, November 17, 2023, at Keyser Nursing home.  Born in Moorefield, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Louise Strawder and Garfield James Washington.

Chris is survived by one son, Michael James Strawder and wife, Cynthia of Orlando, FL., two granddaughters, two great grandsons and a brother, Frank Strawder and wife, Kris of Lakewood, CA.  She leaves behind numerous nephews, cousins and a host of friends.  Besides her parents, she is proceeded in death by two brothers, Charles and Donald Strawder.

Chris was a 1957 graduate of Sander’s Twelve-Year School. She graduated as valedictorian of her class.

As a young woman, Chris moved to Los Angeles, CA where she worked various jobs.  Her favorite job was working in the office at Apparel International, a clothing manufacturer.  On occasion, she would be called upon to model the clothing the company produced.  While working there, she met such celebrities as BB King, Aretha Frankling, Angie Dickenson and others who would come to purchase clothing.  Later, Chris moved to Columbus, OH where she retired from Discover Card.  In 2005, Chris returned to Moorefield and the neighborhood where she was born.

Chris had a deep passion for gardening, enjoyed opera, especially Luciano Pavarotti, she was a self-taught artist and enjoyed gambling trips to Las Vegas.

As per Chris’ wishes, her body has been cremated and there will be no services.
