Donald Eugene Shockey

Donald Eugene Shockey, age 82 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Friday morning, November 12, 2021, at the Grant Rehabilitation & Care Center in Petersburg, WV. Born on November 9, 1939, in Hardy County, WV, he was the son of the late James Cleveland Shockey and Sarah Catherine Hose Shockey. His wife of 57 years, Carol Louise Funkhouser Shockey preceded him in death on October 3, 2021. Brothers, Carl Shockey, Jonah Shockey and Wayne Shockey and sisters, Myrtle Webster, Lola Webster, Pauline Baldwin, Mary Ratliff and Minnie Hefner also preceded him in death. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Donald was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed camping at Wapocoma and later at Jennings Randolph Lake, hunting and fishing, in his spare time. Enjoying the fellowship of others, his storytelling skills was rivaled by others.

Surviving is a son, Randall E. Shockey, wife Kelly of Moorefield, WV, a daughter, Donna L. Delawder, husband Jamie of Petersburg, WV; grandchildren, Brooke Greenwalt (Lucas), Emily Shockey (Nathan Mowery) and Thomas Hedrick, Jr (Brandi); two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, near Moorefield, WV with Pastor Gary Shirk, Jr. officiant. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until time of services. Inurnment will follow in Walnut Grove Gardens adjacent to the church.

Due to the current COVID-19 recommendations, wearing of masks and social distancing by individuals unvaccinated is recommended.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of choice.
