Clyde Joseph Grimes, age 85 of Raines St, Moorefield, WV, passed this life Tuesday afternoon, September 24, 2013 at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, WV. Born November 6, 1927 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Carl Andrew Grimes & Muriel May (Keller) Grimes. Two brothers, Mick and Toby, and a step-grandson, Jeffrey, preceded him in death. Clyde was a Methodist by faith and attended the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He was a past member of the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company, the Lions Club, the V.F.W. and the American Legion for many years. He graduated from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD, served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and graduated from Cathermans Business School in Cumberland, MD. He worked at Hanks Pharmacy, later becoming a Manager of the H.P. store for many years until its closure. After managing a furniture store, he later opened his own store, Grimes Clothing. Upon the closing of his own store, he became a bookkeeper for Shermans Machine Shop and most recently was a familiar greeter at the Wal-Mart in Moorefield for many years. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Florence A. (Montgomery) Grimes; a step-daughter, Greta A. Crites (husband E. Allen) of Fisher, WV; a son, Larry C. Grimes (wife Reneé) of Semmes, AL; a step grandson Ashley (wife Amy); a granddaughter, Laura (husband Chris); a step-granddaughter, Megan; four step-great-grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St. with Father Steve Haptonstahl officiating.
