Charlotte Denise Seymour Hill, age 68, of Moorefield, WV, passed away on Sunday morning, July 21, 2024, at the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born on September 20, 1955, in Petersburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late John Welton “Huck” Seymour Jr. and Janet Jaunita Crites Seymour.
Charlotte dedicated 40 years to teaching in Hardy County Schools, spending her entire career at Moorefield High School. Early on, she coached track and girls' basketball, fostering deep connections with her student-athletes and laying the groundwork for the softball program at MHS. Later in her career, Charlotte expanded her teaching repertoire to include English Language (EL) learners, finding joy in their passion for education and diverse cultures. Known for her straightforward demeanor, she earned the respect of both students and colleagues, serving as a mentor and role model for many younger educators throughout her career.
A devoted member of the Moorefield Assembly of God Church, Charlotte also served on the Potomac Highland Guild board and was actively involved with the Hardy County Health and Wellness Center. Her interests included canning vegetables from her garden, creating and sharing recipes, and keeping her lawn impeccably mowed. Charlotte cherished family trips to South Carolina's Low Country, traveling across the West to Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota—particularly Yellowstone—as well as memorable journeys to New England with her and Dennis' travel companions, Hoss and Mary Mongold. Above all, she took immense pride in and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Charlotte is survived by her husband of 44 years, Dennis Keith Hill; her daughter, Morgan Hill See (Josh); her son, David Hill (Katya) of Summerville, SC; four grandchildren, Darah, Margo, Savannah, and Mason; two brothers, Bob (Carol) Moran of Moorefield and Andy (Jayne) Seymour of Winchester, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Wade Armentrout officiant. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Charlotte Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund, 238 Sunset Terrace, Moorefield, WV 26836. Expressions of condolences, shared memories and cherished photographs may be left on Charlotte’s Tribute Wall at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com honoring her remarkable journey and the impact she made in the lives of those she touched.
