Betty Jean McConnell, age 91 of Jefferson Street, Moorefield, WV, passed away Monday evening, July 20, 2020 at the Grant Rehabilitation & Care Center in Petersburg, WV. Born on May 9, 1929 in Hardy County, WV, she was a daughter of the late Ervin Marshall Crites and Maude Lillian Baldwin Crites. Her husband Lawrence Lorraine “Mac” McConnell preceded her in death in November 1993. Brothers, Brook R., Clyde M., Clarence W. “John”, Delmer E. and Elmer F. (twins), Otha O., Ralph A. “Nook” and sisters Pearl L., Ada W. and Janet J. also preceded her in death. Betty was the last member of her immediate family.
Betty was an exceptional basketball player in high school. Over the years she had numerous jobs, working at Red Harrison’s Restaurant where she developed a love of cooking. At one time, she served as a telephone operator in Moorefield, worked for Dr. Maxwell for many years and retired from the Hardy County Board of Education. An excellent seamstress, she often made suits for her husband as well as other garments and taught sewing and quilting to anyone who wanted to learn. She was a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
Graveside Services will be conducted 10:00 AM Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Olivet Cemetery with Pastor Mark Flynn officiant. Interment will follow.
