Basil Gene Shrewsberry

Basil Gene Shrewsberry age 73 of Ghent, WV took his last earthly breath on Friday, June 4, 2021, and his next breath with The Lord God His Savior. He was born on May 6, 1948, in Beckley, and was the baby of fourteen children of Paris and Louise Farley Shrewsberry.

Basil had a short illness (Cancer), and during the vast number of visitors, he had the privilege to tell of his destination: one way to God through faith in Jesus Christ. Basil was a retired coal miner, and his pass-time was farming.  He loved all his friendships and was a friend to friends.  He connected with strangers by someone they both knew.  He was a member of Daniels Bible Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Jasper, Winford, Helen, Gaye, Thomas, Olay, Icy, Bennett, Pauline, Aretta, and Garland.

He leaves a deep void in the life of his wife, Beebe; Son, Eric; grandsons Adam and wife Jessica Crook, and Justin Crook; granddaughters, Sarah and husband Sam Buckland, and Kate Crook.  He dearly loved those grandchildren and the two great-grandchildren, Addison and Wade. Basil also leaves behind his last surviving brother, Harry and his wife Charlene of Chicago, IL, and sisters-in-law, Pattie Fraley of Moorefield, WV, and Darfane Ramsey of Cool Ridge, WV.

The family extends gratitude, especially to the care of Hospice nurses, all who have made him comfortable, and to those who have given help to his family. God has shown his love through you.

Graveside rites and burial will be conducted at the Paris Shrewsberry Cemetery near Ghent, WV on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Billy Sweeney officiant.
