Arvella Elizabeth Spitzer Clauze, age 88 of Burlington, WV, passed away Sunday evening, December 4, 2016 at the Western Maryland Health Systems in Cumberland, MD from complications of a stroke. Born October 24, 1928 in Smoke Hole, WV, she was a daughter of the late Cutis Lee Spitzer and Agnes (Barger) Spitzer of Keyser, WV. A homemaker and faithful Christian, she was a member of the Harness Run Church of the Brethren at Burlington, WV. Arvella enjoyed cooking for her family and loved springtime when she could get her flowers planted. Her summertime was spent waiting to watch Braves baseball. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Clauze, two daughters, Brenda Clauze and Laura Mongold, a brother, Lowen Spitzer and a sister, Virginia Metcalfe. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Garber (Fred) of Mt. Jackson, VA and Lori Whetzel (Rick) of Petersburg, WV; four sons Richard Clauze (Benita) of Bloomery, WV, Terry Clauze (Shelia) of Petersburg, WV, William Clauze (Chris) of Burlington, WV & Gary Clauze (Shelly) of Inwood, WV; four sisters, Aretta Runner of Keyser, WV, Shirley Nash of McCoole, MD, Linda Foster of Keyser, WV and Darlene Myers of Falling Creek, WV; two brothers, Wendell Spitzer of McCoole, MD and David Spitzer of Keyser, WV; nine grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted 1:30 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St. with Pastor John Ellifritz officiating. Interment will follow at the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, WV. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until time of services at 1:30 PM. Arvella was a wonderful, loving, Christian woman who loved her family very much and will be sadly missed by all. We will treasure her memory forever.
